Sponsorship opportunities for tier 2 sports can be challenging to quantify, making it difficult for rights holders to assess their market position and maximize revenue. Our client needed a clear understanding of how comparable sports were performing in terms of sponsorship, as well as insights into volleyball’s own sponsorship landscape across multiple countries. Accurate benchmarking and validated data were essential for making informed strategic decisions.

Our solution

By analyzing sponsorship revenue across similar sports and leveraging industry databases, we provided a data-driven benchmarking report tailored to the client. Our research examined national federation, team, and league sponsorships, highlighting key market dynamics such as Germany’s high revenue from Bundesliga partnerships and Italy’s reliance on multiple title sponsors.

We compared volleyball’s sponsorship landscape to other sports, highlighting that while it secures a similar number of deals as athletics, there is significant potential for growth in its total sponsorship value.

Additionally, we analyzed sponsorship values across markets, demonstrating how deal volume and duration impact revenue, as seen in Poland’s comparison between handball and volleyball. Our study also explored the balance between national and international funding, offering a complete view of the sport’s commercial position.
